About Counterparty
The reference facts, then what the numbers say.
counterparty.io ↗Explorer ↗@CounterpartyXCP ↗Reddit ↗GitHub ↗API ID: counterpartyGenesis Jan 2, 2014Smart Contract PlatformProof of Work (PoW)
Counterparty is a platform for user-created assets on Bitcoin. It’s a protocol, set of specifications, and an API. Taken together, it allows users to create and trade assets on top of Bitcoin’s blockchain. In this way, Counterparty is similar to platforms like Waves or Ethereum. Of course, the difference is Counterparty integrates directly with Bitcoin. Therefore, it comes will all the security and reliability (and issues) that are part of the Bitcoin blockchain. This is a fairly old project. In fact, it pre-dates Ethereum with its launch in 2014. It was the original asset creation mechanism. As you’re probably aware, Counterparty has faded from prominence over the years. This is largely due to the rise of the ERC-20 token standard on Ethereum. While we’ve become used to calling blockchain assets, tokens, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. An asset can represent anything that has value or is rare. As a result, Counterparty steers clear of the word “token” in their marketing an…
Description via CoinGecko
What happened to Counterparty
Counterparty reached $91.13 9 years ago. It now trades at $6.32 — a decline of 93.1% from that peak. $1,000 bought at the high would be worth $69.35 today.
Returning to the previous high from here would take a gain of 14x. That figure is arithmetic, not a forecast: it is simply the peak divided by the current price.
One limitation is worth stating plainly. CoinGraph holds 1.9 years of daily prices for XCP, and the all-time high falls before that window opens. The peak above is the figure reported by the market data provider; the chart on this page cannot show it. Within the 1.9 years held, the range runs from $0.7954 to $12.66.
How XCP is rated
Counterparty scores 24 out of 100, which places it in the Distressed band — the inputs show a deep decline alongside thinning activity. A higher score means a healthier reading. The score starts at 100 and each measured factor deducts from it.
The deductions for XCP are: price decline, 47 points (down 93.1% from its all-time high of $91.13); volume decay, 22 points (trading volume is 88% below its busiest sustained stretch); market cap erosion, 6 points (market cap down 37% from $25.86M); time below peak, 10 points (3,159 days since the peak); recent rebound, 8 points (market cap up 78% over the last 30 days).
Data confidence for this rating is medium. Almost no recent trading (under $1k/day). A rating is only as good as what it is computed from, so the limits are stated rather than smoothed over.
Is XCP moving on its own?
From its lowest close in the 1.9 years held — $0.7954 — XCP has gained 100%, a 7.9x move off that floor. CoinGraph reads this as recovering.
Extending the pace of the last 90 days, a return to the previous high would take roughly 4 months. That is an extrapolation of a recent trend, not a projection — 90 days of crypto prices is a short base, and the pace will not hold steady.
XCP market position
XCP has a market capitalisation of $16.34M, ranking 933 by size, on 24-hour trading volume of $3.6K.
Daily turnover — volume as a share of market cap — is 0.0%. Turnover is what tells you whether a price is real: a coin can hold a large nominal valuation while almost nothing changes hands, and a price set by very few trades is one that moves sharply when anyone sizeable arrives.
Annualised volatility from daily returns is 100%. CoinGraph rates overall risk Extreme on these inputs.
Counterparty — common questions
Is Counterparty still active?
CoinGraph rates Counterparty (XCP) 24 out of 100 today — Distressed, meaning the Distressed band — the inputs show a deep decline alongside thinning activity. The rating is derived from four disclosed inputs — price decline from the all-time high, volume decay, market cap erosion and time below peak — and is an opinion about what the data shows, not a prediction. The full breakdown is on this page.
How far is Counterparty from its all-time high?
Counterparty (XCP) is 93.1% below its all-time high of $91.13, trading at $6.32.
What would $1,000 of Counterparty bought at the peak be worth now?
$1,000 of XCP bought at its all-time high would be worth about $69.35 today, a decline of 93.1%.
How much would XCP need to rise to break even?
XCP would need to gain 14x from $6.32 to return to its all-time high of $91.13.
What is Counterparty's survival rating?
CoinGraph rates Counterparty 24 out of 100, in the Distressed band — the inputs show a deep decline alongside thinning activity. The rating is derived from price decline, volume decay, market cap erosion and time below peak, and every deduction is shown on this page. Higher is healthier.
What is Counterparty's price prediction?
CoinGraph does not publish price predictions — for XCP or any coin. What the data shows instead: XCP trades at $6.32, 93.1% below its all-time high, and would need to gain 14x to return there — arithmetic, not a forecast. CoinGraph's survival rating for Counterparty is 24/100 (Distressed), derived from disclosed inputs.
Will Counterparty recover to its all-time high?
Nobody can know, and CoinGraph does not predict. The measurable part: XCP needs a 14x gain from $6.32 to reach $91.13 again. Right now its recovery signal reads recovering, and it is not comparable to the wider market on the data held over the last 30 days — a coin climbing on its own demand is a different situation from one drifting with the market.
Is Counterparty a good investment?
CoinGraph does not give investment advice or recommendations. It publishes a survival rating — Counterparty scores 24/100 (Distressed) — derived from price decline, volume decay, market cap erosion and time below peak, with every deduction shown. That is an opinion about what the data shows, for you to weigh against your own situation.
Why is Counterparty up today?
XCP has moved +8.9% in the last 24 hours. CoinGraph reads market data rather than headlines, and the data says: over 30 days it is —, and it is not comparable to the wider market on the data held. A single day's move means little on its own unless volume and the longer trend confirm it — both are itemised on this page.
Is Counterparty recovering?
XCP is 100% above its lowest close in the 1.9 years of data held, which CoinGraph reads as recovering. It is not comparable to the wider market on the data held over the last 30 days.
Everything else on this page is the data. The report is the analysis — what drove the decline, the warning signs in this coin’s numbers, and what a recovery would require.
