Lido Staked Ether (stETH) is a token that represents your staked ether in Lido, combining the value of initial deposit and staking rewards. stETH tokens are minted upon deposit and burned when redeemed. stETH token balances are pegged 1:1 to the ethers that are staked by Lido and the token’s balances are updated daily to reflect earnings and rewards. stETH tokens can be used as one would use ether, allowing you to earn ETH 2.0 staking rewards whilst benefiting from e.g. yields across decentralised finance products.
Description via CoinGecko
What happened to Lido Staked Ether
Lido Staked Ether reached $4,933 1 year ago. It now trades at $2,384 — a decline of 51.7% from that peak. $1,000 bought at the high would be worth $483.19 today.
Returning to the previous high from here would take a gain of 2.1x. That figure is arithmetic, not a forecast: it is simply the peak divided by the current price.
Within the 2 years of daily prices held for STETH, the range runs from $1,471 to $4,801, and the all-time high falls inside that window — so the chart on this page shows the full decline.
How STETH is rated
Lido Staked Ether scores 43 out of 100, which places it in the Weakening band — the inputs show erosion in more than one measure at once. A higher score means a healthier reading. The score starts at 100 and each measured factor deducts from it.
The deductions for STETH are: price decline, 26 points (down 51.7% from its all-time high of $4,933); volume decay, 22 points (trading volume is 88% below its busiest sustained stretch); market cap erosion, 6 points (market cap down 42% from $39.54B); time below peak, 3 points (374 days since the peak).
Is STETH moving on its own?
From its lowest close in the 2 years held — $1,471 — STETH has gained 62.0%, a 1.6x move off that floor. CoinGraph reads this as recovering.
Over the last 30 days STETH moved +28.3% against the wider market's +21.2% — moving broadly in line with the wider market. This distinction matters more than the headline number: a coin rising only when everything rises is being carried, and that is a different situation from one climbing on its own demand.
Extending the pace of the last 90 days, a return to the previous high would take roughly 7 months. That is an extrapolation of a recent trend, not a projection — 90 days of crypto prices is a short base, and the pace will not hold steady.
STETH market position
STETH has a market capitalisation of $23.03B, on 24-hour trading volume of $16.71M.
Daily turnover — volume as a share of market cap — is 0.1%. Turnover is what tells you whether a price is real: a coin can hold a large nominal valuation while almost nothing changes hands, and a price set by very few trades is one that moves sharply when anyone sizeable arrives.
Annualised volatility from daily returns is 69.0%. CoinGraph rates overall risk High on these inputs.
